Born in Scarborough, Ontario to Sikh immigrant parents, Jagmeet Singh always knew he wanted to make a difference in the world. He studied biology and psychology at the University of Western Ontario before pursuing a law degree at Osgoode Hall Law School. During his time as a law student, he became increasingly involved in activism and advocacy, particularly for human rights and social justice issues. This passion for making positive change led him to become a lawyer specializing in criminal defense and civil rights cases.

In 2011, Singh’s activism and dedication to social justice led him to run for office as a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in the provincial election for the riding of Bramalea-Gore-Malton. He won the election, becoming the first turban-wearing Sikh to hold a seat in the Ontario legislature. Singh quickly gained widespread recognition and support for his progressive views and charismatic leadership style. This paved the way for him to run for the federal NDP leadership in 2017, where he won by a landslide and became the first person of visible minority to lead a major federal political party in Canada. His platform focused on social and economic justice, climate change, and indigenous rights, resonating with many Canadians and propelling the NDP to new heights. Today, Jagmeet Singh continues to inspire and advocate for a more equal and
